Major Donor Officer

Jewish Voice for Peace is a national grassroots organization with over 70 chapters, 17,000 members and 220,000 supporters, dedicated to a U.S. foreign policy toward Israel/Palestine that promotes full equality and human rights for all.

At JVP we use a grassroots fundraising model to drive the majority of our budget. Over 90% of our income comes from individual donors. Our top donor gives 6% of our budget, and our average gift is $60, which provides organizational stability. We fundraise through a combination of email, social media, direct mail, and one-on-one donor engagement. We also have a robust major donor program that allows us to build long term relationships with over 900 donors, by utilizing a team of over 80 people (some staff, some volunteer) who each hold a donor portfolio of 5-20 donors.

The major donor officer will primarily engage with their own portfolio of major donors, develop new prospective major donors, and develop communications and programming for our major donor program as a whole.

Duties and responsibilities:

Major Donors:
  • Manage a portfolio of current donors 
  • Identify, qualify and cultivate new individual major donor prospects for JVP
  • Perform high quality donor research to support cultivation and engagement efforts
  • Oversee stewardship of a high-quality donor experience through design and implementation of donor tiers and corresponding donor engagement, materials, programming and acknowledgements.
  • Plan and execute fundraising cultivation activities including donor events, political strategy conversations, and updates for major donors. 
  • Support JVP staff, board, and volunteers in their cultivation and solicitation activities.
  • Represent JVP at external functions and events
  • Manage major donor moves management systems
  • Other duties as assigned
All JVP staff participate in 1-2 hours a week of general staff tasks, including phone banking. Travel is required for this position.
The ideal candidate: 
  • Has experience with asking and closing gifts of $5,000 or more
  • Has experience doing non-profit fundraising, specifically working with major donors
  • Has experience building donor and volunteer relationships, donor programming, and donor communications
  • Has experience managing and executing donor visits and relationship management strategies
  • Is able to conceptualize, build and implement major donor tiers
  • Is able to create and utilize donor prospecting and management tools including CRM software, wealth screening programs, moves management, donor briefing documents, etc.
  • Has strong understanding of moves management planning and the donor lifecycle
  • Has knowledge of industry standards, current trends, and best practices
  • Commitment to JVP mission
  • Previous non-profit fundraising and major donor work required
  • Proficient in GSuite, Microsoft Office Suite and ready to learn systems as needed
  • Ability to keep deadlines, organize numerous projects and files, and manage shifting priorities
  • Strong fundraising communication and writing skills
  • Professional, communicates clearly, and works with integrity, patience, and a sense of humor.
  • Experienced in and committed to working in diverse workplaces
  • A flexible problem-solver who recognizes patterns and repeat problems and suggests solutions
  • Self-motivated, requiring minimal direction to accomplish high levels of work in fast-paced environment both individual and within teams
Compensation: This is a non-exempt, salaried, full-time position. The salary is in the high 50k to low 60K range with a generous benefits package.
