Legislative & Electoral Grassroots Organizer

At Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), we are growing, developing and mobilizing a powerful grassroots, mutiracial base of Jews and allies working toward justice and equality in Palestine/Israel by transforming U.S. policy. Over the last few years, the Palestinian rights movement has made incredible strides in Congress. With returning human rights champions and new allies coming into office next year, we’re in a moment of unprecedented possibility in the fight for justice and accountability. JVP is looking for a dynamic Legislative & Electoral Grassroots Organizer to help us get there! 

The Legislative & Electoral Grassroots Organizer will join the JVP family of organizations, working primarily with Jewish Voice for Peace Action (JVP Action). JVP Action is the political and advocacy arm of JVP, which holds all work related to Congressional advocacy and electoral organizing.  

This role is responsible for mobilizing our grassroots power to elect public officials who will champion Palestinian rights, and to hold them accountable once they are in office. The Legislative & Electoral Grassroots Organizer is part of the JVP Organizing Team, and works with the Senior Manager of Government Affairs and with member leaders to develop and implement JVP Action’s congressional organizing and electoral field strategy. 

The ideal candidate for this position is creative, passionate, strategic, and pragmatic. This role is perfect for someone who is excited about the political opportunities of the electoral cycle, but who is grounded in a commitment to the transformational political change only possible from long-term grassroots organizing and movement building. 

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate with JVP and JVP Action staff and member leaders to build our grassroots power and shape advocacy campaigns to engage members of Congress 
  • Develop and implement electoral field strategies to harness the power of our grassroots base in support of progressive candidates, including volunteer recruitment, and developing metrics and measures of success for electoral field strategy 
  • Support development and implementation of tools, trainings and infrastructure to facilitate base building in support of leadership development toward campaign goals and long term organizational growth goals
  • Explore and test new tactics to facilitate and strengthen member communications and advocacy tools 
  • Work with chapters to ensure that they are organizing in coalition with local base of national coalition partners as well as with local Palestinian and other partners

Qualifications:
  • Promotes cultures of respect, inclusion and justice within organizing structures
  • Political or electoral campaign experience required
  • Experience developing, training and empowering volunteer members to work toward campaign goals 
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate racial/power structure analysis into personal practice, campaign/project development and execution, and engagement with members and staff 
  • Demonstrated nimbleness; if this program doesn’t work, can shift and adapt quickly
  • Demonstrated skills in cross-organizational collaboration
  • Tech savvy, must be comfortable in a digital workplace and organizing environment, (for example, text and phone banking tools and data management systems) 
  • Demonstrated ability to handle, keep track of and follow-through on multiple projects
  • Experience and/or familiarity with election rules and regulations 
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills 

Preferred qualifications: 
  • Have a commitment to and understanding of JVP’s political positions 
  • Knowledge of, or experience with, the Palestinian rights movement in the U.S. 
  • Knowledge of, or experience with, American Jewish communities 
  • Have a demonstrable commitment to grassroots fundraising and integration of fundraising with other organizational activities


Compensation and benefits: This is a non-exempt, salaried, full-time position. The salary range is low 50s to low 60s (commensurate with skills & experience) with a robust benefits package. JVP full-time staff are eligible for up to twenty days of vacation time per year. Staff are eligible to accrue up to twelve sick paid days per year. All staff also have 13 paid holidays off. This is a union position.
