Local Organizer - San Francisco Bay Area

Location: Bay Area, CA
Date Posted: 08-06-2018
The San Francisco Bay Area chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace is looking for an experienced and energetic Local Organizer to support our members in their organizing and activism and expand our chapter’s potential. Jewish Voice for Peace is a national grassroots organization with over 60 chapters and 200,000 supporters, dedicated to a U.S. foreign policy toward Israel and Palestine that promotes full equality, human rights, and respect for international law.

The Local Organizer will be a part of the National JVP Organizing team, focused on organizing in San Francisco and the East Bay. The Local Organizer will be responsible for building, sustaining, and strategically deploying the power of our chapter toward justice in Palestine. The organizer will work with chapter leadership to broaden the base of local activists in the chapter, build a more multiracial and multigenerational membership including Jews of Color and Sephardi and Mizrahi Jews, develop leadership within the membership of the group, and support chapter campaigns.
The organizer will cultivate and maintain good working relationships with Palestinian led and other Palestine solidarity groups, and develop connections with progressive and anti-racist organizations, leaders, and movements in the Bay Area.

About 15% of the local organizer's time, occasionally more, will be spent on nationally-directed work including national JVP staff meetings, fundraising, and other projects. Some nights and weekends and occasional travel are required.
The ideal candidate:
Passionate about making change through building grassroots power
Familiar with JVP’s mission and knowledgeable about Jewish communities
Excited about bringing people together and building members’ leadership skills
Clear commitment to and experience in anti-racist and intersectional organizing
Organized, accountable and energetic
Able to put forward JVP messaging through a variety of media
Experienced in community organizing and facilitation, either paid or unpaid

Compensation:  This is an exempt, salaried full time position. The salary is in the low fifties with a generous benefits package.

People of color, Sephardi or Mizrahi applicants, and transgender or gender non-conforming applicants strongly encouraged to apply.
