Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) is a national grassroots organization with over 70 chapters and 200,000 online supporters, dedicated to a US foreign policy toward Israel and Palestine that promotes full equality, human rights, and respect for international law. JVP is looking for an experienced and motivated Southern Regional organizer to support our members in their organizing, grow the potential of the region and build new chapters. Current chapters are active in Kentucky, Triangle-NC, Atlanta, South Florida, and New Orleans.
 
The Southern Regional Organizer will be part of the National JVP organizing team with a specific focus on organizing in the South. The organizer will build and sustain regional power by developing strategy specific to Southern organizing culture. The organizer will work with chapter leaders and members in the South to broaden the base of local pro-Palestine activists, build a more multiracial membership, and develop leadership in Southern chapters.  By maintaining personal relationships with JVP members and catering to chapter-specific communication needs, the Southern Regional Organizer will serve as a link between local chapter leadership and national campaigns, programs, and strategy.
 
For the region as a whole the Regional Organizer will:
 
  • Build a multi-racial base committed to growing JVP’s work within the region
  • Identify, maintain and leverage local relationships to launch new chapters
  • Serve as a link between national campaigns and programs and local chapter-led organizing
  • Maintain local relationships through leading trainings, facilitating meetings, planning in-person visits, and ongoing phone calls with local leaders
  • Create resources to sustain and grow campaigns and local chapter work
  • Recruit for, plan workshops and manage logistics for national leadership development opportunities, including regional in person gatherings trainings, our bi-annual National Member Meeting & on-going online trainings political education
  • Plan an in-person leadership development gathering within the first 6-months of their hire, including convening a planning team which includes member-leaders and being responsible for the budget, agenda, and logistics of coordinating travel
 
The Regional Organizer will additionally:
 
  • Build the power of local chapters within their region through enhancing their ability to build community, develop new leadership and mobilize effective campaigns.
  • Support the development and on-going mobilization of one key non-regionally-based constituency organizing project
  • Cultivate and maintain good working relationships with other Palestine solidarity groups, and develop connections with progressive and anti-­racist organizations, leaders, and movements in the South.
 
The ideal candidate is:
 
  • Committed to JVP’s mission and knowledgeable about Jewish communities and values
  • Demonstrates intimate familiarity with the South, including its demographics, legacy of faith-based and relational organizing, and the geographic spread of Southern cities
  • Enthusiastic about providing leadership support to a group of diverse, intergenerational JVP chapters
  • Dedicated to and experienced with anti-racist organizing that amplifies voices of Palestinians, Jews of color, and Sephardi and Mizrahi Jews
  • Prepared to collaborate with Palestinian-led organizations
  • Capable of assuming leadership by managing work independently and delegating work to others
  • Proactive in initiating and maintaining positive professional relationships with members of JVP and other organizations
  • Skilled at both written and verbal communication in order to effectively connect with members
 
Compensation:  This is an exempt, salaried full time position. The salary starts in the low fifties with a generous benefits package.
